Roxie The Great

My littlest sister Maggie turned 9 this week and she has been planning her birthday party for the last two months. My mom, being the amazing woman that she is, has always let us kids take ownership and add our own personality to things. Maggie wanted to make her own birthday invitations so my mom stepped back and let it happen. Zane and I recieved ours the first week in May and had to rsvp before we could leave the table.

Mom checked in with Maggie periodically to see what she could help out with, and by the time the party rolled around it had turned into a slumber/craft night. Mom was set with supplies and Maggie was thrilled. However. . . . what mom was not expecting was 23 coed campers. You're not a kiddin!

I got a text from Sara (19) that night asking me to save her from the mad house with this picture attached. They all planned on sleeping over:

Apparently Maggie didn't want to leave anyone out and since she had been making the invitations, mom had no idea how many had been passed out after the initial batch. In fact, it turned out that several of the kids had recieved last minute hand written notes when Maggie realized they had been left out.

My angel of a mother just shook her head and rolled with the punches. Dad was gone for the night (thank heavens or i'm sure we would have lost a few lives) so mom single handedly reined 23 nine year olds from one improvised activity to another. Any normal mother would be pulling thier hair out but you know, that's just my mom: 'Roxie the Great' as Sara calls her. And you know what, this is definately a birthday Maggie will never forget.
